The Music of Healing Prelude
An afternoon seminar featuring talks from musicians, doctors and religious leaders on a theme of the healing power of music. Beginning at 2pm at An Cuan (44 Shore Road, Rostrevor), the event precedes the Music of Healing evening concert, which starts at 8pm. Please note tickets are sold separately for these two events.
The prelude this year “Ancient songs and dealings of sorrow” with special guests from the world of medical science, religion and music will discuss the use of arts, in general, and music in particular, in dealing with grief and mourning across cultures and traditions. Through reflections on the purpose of the lament, the ancient harpers’ triad of goltrai, geantrai, and suantrai: the storied music of the Scottish pibroch, Saxon traditions and American “Delta Blues,” we will examine music as both witness and remedy to suffering by offering consolation, connection, and celebration in its aftermath.
Bróna will deliver a talk/performance entitled The Art of Lament. Full programme details to follow.
